Press release from the Norwalk Public Library: August 10 2020 Norwalk, CT–Norwalk Public Library is pleased to host a live virtual performance by the Barefoot Shakespeare Company of A Midsummer Night's Dream, on Thursday, September 3, at 6:30 p.m. To register and receive access to this Zoom program, please contact Cynde Bloom Lahey, Director of Library Information Services, [email protected]. Barefoot Shakespeare presents a virtual reading performance of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. This production sets out to prove, magic is real. One night's journey through a primeval forest wreaks havoc with the hearts and minds of four young rebels, an avant-garde theatre troupe, and even a fairy or two. Always attempting to find the tragedy in comedy, director Laurel Andersen says, "Can reason be regained –or should it? Music and magic work in concert in this thoughtful take on one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies." Founded in New York City in 2012 by Emily Gallagher, Courtney Moors, and Rob Sniffin, Barefoot Shakespeare Company has a pedestrian, engaging and modern outlook on the works of the Bard. Dedicated to bringing Shakespeare's work to a wide, diverse audience, Barefoot Shakespeare approaches these texts with energy, enthusiasm, and excitement. Striving to create work that is grounded, accessible and applicable, they seek to dissolve the divide between spectator and performer. They explore the canon and produce both full scale as well as shortened, "ready to go" productions. Barefoot Shakespeare also lead in-school workshops that focus on text analysis and a hands-on approach to understanding and enjoying Shakespeare's words. This press release was produced by the Norwalk Public Library. The views expressed here are the author's own.
