Press release from Norwalk Public Library System: Sept. 3, 2020 The Norwalk Public Library welcomes ArtScapades back for a virtual presentation in its continuing series of lectures on 20th Century Art. Please join us on Wednesday, September 23, at 6:30p.m., from the comfort of your home, for "East Meets West: From Japonism to Impressionism." Please register for this program by emailing Cynde Bloom Lahey, Director of Library Information Services, at [email protected], and she will send you the Zoom link to join the program. ArtScapades will look at the influence of Japanese art and culture on French and American Impressionism. This lecture begins with a look at two of Japan's master printmakers, Hokusai and Hiroshige, and will then move on to discuss their influence on well known names of the Impressionist movement, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase and Childe Hassam. Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman of ArtScapades began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Florida.
