Framingham Brewery Uses Local Grains, Relaunches Popular Brew

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Framingham's Exhibit 'A' Brewing Company is stressing its support of locally sourced ingredients with new packaging that highlights its connection with area farmers. The craft brewery helped to launch the Northeast Grainshed Alliance and the Square Foot Project, which bring together breweries with farmers, processors and educators to promote the use of local grains. From now on, each Exhibit 'A' beer brewed in collaboration with local farmers will carry a badge which denotes exactly how many square feet of local farmland each can supports. The first beer to feature the badge is a relaunch of the brewery's popular American IPA, called "Market Gap." With a 6.7% alcohol content, "Market Gap " is "a contemporary take on the classic American IPA recipe: slightly bitter, piney, and a touch of citrus balanced with a light malt sweetness from varying local grains," according to a company statement. "For every 16 oz. can you drink, you'll be supporting over 4 square feet of local farmland," according to Exhibit 'A' spokesperson Sloane Wilten. "Pairing the piney hops in this beer with a touch of citrusy hops increases the bitterness without taking away from its drinkability. It's brewed in support of the Northeast Grainshed Alliance by using locally grown and malted grains." The beer is available in the Framingham taproom and also is distributed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. The Northeast Grainshed Alliance is a network of local grain growers, processors, producers and organizations with the goal of educating the public about the value of local grains.
