Parking Enforcement Resumes In Norwalk On June 17

NORWALK, CT — The city will resume enforcing its parking regulations and fees on June 17, as Norwalk and the state enter Phase Two of Connecticut's reopening efforts from the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Norwalk Parking Authority announced. Norwalk has waived its parking fees since March due to the virus. On Friday, the Norwalk Parking Authority announced its intention to resume enforcement to help ensure turnover for local businesses. Normal parking enforcement will resume for street, surface/lot and structured/garage parking. In June, NPA voted to reintroduce parking fees with an expanded Courtesy Card Program for the first-half of the month, for which no tickets were issued, unless there is a life safety violation, such as blocking a fire hydrant. That waiver ends on June 17. "The Norwalk Parking Authority continues to make strides to support local businesses inNorwalk by ensuring the turnover of parking spots, which will help to bring more customers," said NPA Chairman Dick Brescia in a statement. "This is the next phase in the Parking Authority's rollout plan to reintroduce parking – the first phase was no parking rates for April and May 2020. The Norwalk Parking Authority will continue to meet regularly on the rollout plan and is committed to supporting local business through the COVID-19 pandemic." In April and May, NPA identified a large number of street parkingspaces were being utilized by residents because there were no parking rates or parking enforcement in place. In some cases, cars had not moved for weeks, limiting the ability to have turnover in spaces closest to businesses that were reopening as part of the state's Phase One plan.
