Former Connecticut TV News Reporter Killed In NYC Crash

NEW YORK & CONNECTICUT — Nina Kapur, a former News 12 Connecticut reporter, died following a moped crash Saturday in New York City, according to her current news station, CBS New York. She was 26 years old. Kapur was an alumna of Syracuse University and joined CBS New York as a reporter in the fall of 2019. Prior to that, she worked at News 12 Connecticut from 2017 through the summer of 2019. Details of the crash were not immediately available. She died at Bellevue Hospital. Many of her current and former colleagues paid tribute to her Monday. "We got this awful news this afternoon," wrote News 12 Connecticut's John Craven. "Nina was a huge part of our News 12 family. I just saw her the other day; we were neighbors in Hell's Kitchen. Heartbroken." "I'm crushed," added News 12 Connecticut's Marissa Alter. "Nina was such a bright light—so incredibly kind and positive. She will be missed so much by so many people." Kapur was a versatile television reporter, covering everything from a devastating Fairfield fire that killed hundreds of chickens, to a project to restore a historic staircase in New Jersey. Doylestown Patch reports that Kapur was a native of Newtown, Pennsylvania, in Bucks County. In addition to CBS New York and News 12 Connecticut, Kapur also had a stint at WDMV in Maryland. "Finding it hard to report today, but pulling myself together because I know @ninakapur1 wouldn't want me to fall apart," wrote CBS New York's John Dias. "She was a true angel on earth, and now she is a real one in heaven. Love you, Nina! RIP." "Our hearts are broken," wrote CBS New York anchor Chris Wragge. "@CBSNewYork @ninakapur1 we will miss your smile, your warmth, your presence. Rest In Peace young lady."
