NORWALK, CT — Two people suffered serious injuries Thursday in a fiery four-vehicle crash on Connecticut Avenue in Norwalk, according to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Shay. Two other people also were injured in the crash, which required firefighters to extinguish one of the vehicle which caught on fire. All four lanes of Connecticut Avenue temporarily were shutdown between Scribner Avenue and Rampart Road as a result of the crash, which knocked down utility poles, according to Norwalk police. "This was a four-car mva with one car taking down three utility poles," Shay said in a statement. "The high tension wires surrounded the car and it burst into flames. The two occupants managed to get out with the help of bystanders." Due to the wires still being live, firefighters could not extinguish the blaze until the power was shut off to the area. Update- RT 1 closed between Scribner Ave and Rampart Rd. Use Scribner Ave to Flax Hill to Keeler Ave as a detour. @News12CT @CTTRANSIT @NorwalkTransit @Norwalk_CT @TheHourNews @EversourceCT https://t.co/81tCihSdzb— Norwalk, CT Police (@NorwalkCtPD) July 30, 2020
