NORWALK, CT — A vehicle veered off the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk early Saturday and plunged 60 feet, coming to rest in the Norwalk River near exit 40A, according to Norwalk deputy fire Chief Edward Prescott. The driver of the Hyundai sedan, described as a woman in her 20s, was taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation following the 4:30 a.m. crash, but she was able to walk away from the wreck under her own power. "When Firefighters arrived with Hospital Paramedics and State Police the car, a Hyundai Sedan was found on its side, in a foot of water, between the Parkway exit 40A ramp and the 1 Glover Avenue Condos," wrote Prescott in a statement. "The car appears to have left the southbound exit ramp to Main Avenue and traveled 60' to the river below." No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the woman told authorities. State Police made arrangements to remove the car from the river.
