ANNAPOLIS, MD — A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after a tree fell on a home near Annapolis on Monday, county officials said. The tree snapped during a storm where wind gusts reached 35 mph. Authorities said medics pronounced the man dead on the scene, estimating that he was in his 40s. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department has not yet released his name. A press release said the tree came down around 9:35 p.m. in the 800 block of Holly Drive West. That's located off U.S. Route 50 just before Whitehall Manor and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Medics took the 45-year-old woman to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, the release said. She suffered life-threatening injuries. The man, woman and child were all stuck in an upstairs bedroom, which sustained significant structural damage. Medics treated the child on the scene along with two other occupants who escaped before firefighters arrived, authorities said. A team of 47 removed the remaining occupants and stabilized the two-story, single-family home in about an hour and a half, the release said.
