PROVIDENCE, RI — The Boston Marathon returned on its traditional Patriots Day date Monday. More than 25,000 athletes completed the 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Boylston Street. Among the runners were 18 athletes from Providence. And one of those runners finished in the top 700 overall. Eliot Laidlaw, 22, who finished with a time of 2:43:14, came in 691st place. Overall, Evans Chebet of Kenya took first place among the men with a finishing time of 2:06:51, and Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya won in the women's group with a time of 02:21:01.
