Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: April 17, 2022 On April 17th, 2022, at about 7:47 PM, a driver of a vehicle traveling south bound on the Interstate 5 Freeway drove off the roadway and onto the railroad tracks approximately two miles north of Las Pulgas Rd. The tracks run parallel to the freeway. The driver was uninjured and able to safely exit the vehicle. Approximately five minutes later, south bound Amtrack #585 struck the vehicle. The train was traveling approximately 45 miles per hour. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
