FBI Captures Suspect In Norwalk Bank Robbery: Police

NORWALK, CT — A man suspected in a series of robberies in Fairfield County was arrested over the weekend in New York, according to law enforcement. Tyler O'Toole was arrested Saturday in Queens, New York, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of New Jersey. O'Toole, 23, of Cleveland, Ohio, is a suspect in numerous robberies in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, and has been charged in several New Jersey cases, the news release said. O'Toole was out on bail with electronic monitoring after being charged in August with a Chicago-area bank robbery, until Sept. 24, when he removed his monitoring device, stole his mother's blue 2018 Hyundai Elantra and drove away, according to the news release. The Connecticut robberies occurred in September and October in Fairfield, Westport, Shelton, Norwalk and Danbury, police said. Four of the five incidents took place at banks. Local authorities offered a $1,500 reward — which was later increased to $3,500 — for information about the suspect. O'Toole was charged Nov. 4 in connection with seven bank robberies or attempted bank robberies in New Jersey, according to the news release. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance via videoconference Monday in New Jersey. Fairfield police were notified Saturday about the arrest, according to Lt. Antonio Granata, who said the Connecticut robberies will likely be prosecuted at the federal level. "Our investigators worked hard with a lot of other agencies," said Granata, adding the FBI took over the investigation after the New Jersey robberies began in early October. The U.S. Attorney's Office credited the FBI's Violent Crimes/Interstate Theft Task Force for the charges in New Jersey. — By Anna Bybee-Schier, Patch Staff
