Suspect Arrested, Charged In South Bay Home Depot Fire

SAN JOSE, CA — The person suspected of starting a five-alarm fire in a Home Depot in San Jose last week was arrested and charged, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office. District Attorney Jeff Rosen will announce details in a news conference Tuesday scheduled for 11 a.m. San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, the San Jose Police Department, the San Jose Fire Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will also appear at the news briefing. The Home Depot was destroyed and the air quality was deemed unhealthy by hazard crews. Residents and occupants of neighboring businesses were allowed to return on Sunday afternoon and the blaze was out just before midnight. Firefighters remained on scene through the night. The heat signature of the blaze was also detected in space through the GOES West Meso Sector, the National Weather Service reported from its Bay Area office. No injuries were reported in the massive fire. While flying over the fire, Santa Clara County Sheriff Department's STAR1 helicopter saw two other fires burning nearby. It was unclear whether those fires were connected to the fire at Home Depot.
