PORTLAND, OR —Add Lyft and Uber to the list of companies and places that have lifted their mask mandate following the ruling of a federal judge in Florida overturned the federal mask mandate for travel and transportation.
"Wearing a mask is now optional for everyone in the car," Lyft said in a statement. "Riders and drivers are no longer required to keep he front seat empty or the windows open.
"While orders and drivers can always cancel any ride they don't wish to take, health safety reasons – like not wearing a mask – will no longer appear as cancellation options in the app."
Uber followed suit in an announcement Tuesday morning.
"Riders and drivers are not required to wear masks when using Uber," the company said in a statement.
"Remember, many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health reasons, so please be respectful of their preferences."
Both companies said that people who are at high risk should aways feel free to wear masks and added that if someone is symptomatic or has tested positive, they should refrain from using their service until they are healthy.
