Press release from the Dakota County Government: April 19, 2022 The Dakota County Board of Commissioners proclaimed Tuesday, April 19 County Government Appreciation Day. The board commended county employees for their dedicated public service and commitment to excellence. "We have front-line workers visible to the public, but there is a lot of important work that county employees also do behind the scenes," Dakota County Board Chair Kathleen A. Gaylord said. "From helping respond to the pandemic to providing public safety services and so much more, county employees are truly committed to serving our residents." Dakota County's more than 1,900 employees serve Minnesota's third-largest county, comprising nearly 440,000 residents. County workers provide extensive services for the public, including newborn well-checks, passport and license renewals, veteran benefits, election administration, highway maintenance, and parks and libraries. "The vital work of counties promotes healthy communities, fosters conditions for economic growth, strengthens infrastructure and improves residents' quality of life," the Dakota County Board proclamation states.
