Route 2 Work In Lexington To Cause Temporary Closures

LEXINGTON, MA — Starting next week Lexington commuters can expect daytime closures on some lanes on Route 2. Closures between Exit 56 and Exit 60 on Route 2 in Lexington and Arlington. The lane closures will start on Monday. Drivers should expect closures will occur Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, and will last for approximately four weeks. Starting July 13 and for three weeks, there will be a single left lane closure both eastbound and westbound between Exit 56 and Exit 57. For one week, there will be alternating double lane closures both eastbound and westbound between Exit 58 and Exit 60 to allow the installation of conduit across the underside of the Route 60 bridge. These traffic impacts are necessary to allow crews to safely and effectively conduct construction operations related to highway lighting improvements along a section of Route 2. The contract was awarded to Coviello Electric and General Contracting Co. Inc. with an estimated cost of $14.7 million and a completion date of February 5, 2022. Appropriate signage, law enforcement details and advance message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice. Drivers are encouraged to make informed decisions before heading out onto the roadways. Those traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
