LEXINGTON, MA — A Lexington music teacher was named one of 216 quarterfinalists for GRAMMY Music Educator Award. Angela Carpenter, a music teacher at Harrington Elementary School in Lexington, earned her spot on the list. Carpenter is just one of two Massachusetts teachers to be named a 2021 quarterfinalist. The GRAMMY Music Educator Award recognizes educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. The award is open to educators from kindergarten through college in public and private schools. Carpenter studied at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Arts degree. Before teaching in Lexington, Carpenter taught music in Binghamton and Rochester, NY. This is her 14th year teaching. On her classroom web page, Carpenter says her teaching philosophy is a simple one, "To instill a life-long appreciation and love for music in my students." The 216 music teachers announced in the quarterfinals come from 199 cities. The award comes with cash honorariums, with generous support and resources provided by the Ford Motor Company Fund. In addition to the 216 quarterfinalists, 91 legacy applicants from 2020 will also be eligible to win the award this year. Absolutely THRILLED to share this news!!!!
