Response to: Conundrum "A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again." - There is a seriously obvious difference between a parachute and a gun. If everyone wore a parachute the world would be a much safer place. If everyone had a gun the world would be a very dangerous place. “The definition of the word Conundrum is: something that is puzzling or confusing.”- True, how you came to these conclusions is a conundrum. Here are six Conundrums of socialism in the United States of America: 1. “America is capitalist and greedy - yet half of the population is subsidized.” – Your source? My source indicates roughly 19% of Americans are on a subsidy of some kind. It is almost exclusively the elderly, poor women, children and the mentally ill. Are you suggesting we not help them? Have you no sense of charity? 2. “Half of the population is subsidized - yet they think they are victims.” – And yet here you are playing the victim and looking for someone to justify your position. This post makes you sound like just another rich capitalist gun owner who feels victimized by poor people and people who don’t want to live in fear for gun violence. Pathetic. 3. “They think they are victims - yet their representatives run the government.” – Seriously? You think our representatives represent poor people? They are the rich. 4. “Their representatives run the government - yet the poor keep getting poorer.” – See above. Income inequality is the hallmark of capitalism. If #3 and #4 were even remotely true we would already be under a socialist government. 5. “The poor keep getting poorer - yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.” – True. Most countries do not have shopping carts. Other than that living on the streets is pretty much the same everywhere. 6. “They have things that people in other countries only dream about - yet they want America to be more like those other countries.” – Your source for this BS? I have never met a citizen of this country that wishes we were like other countries. These three, short sentences tell you a lot about the direction of our current government and cultural environment: 1. “We are advised to NOT judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics.” – Playing the victim, again? I’m “judged”. WHAT A PUSSY. Fact is more guns equal more death by gun. An argument for more guns is an argument for more death by gun. More women, children, innocent bystanders, first responders, on and on. But you are worried about being “judged” while the deaths pile up. Funny how that works. And here's another one worth considering… 2. “Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. But we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money!” – We can’t let the weakest among us starve. “What's interesting is the first group "worked for" their money, but the second did not.” – I like how you said “worked for” instead of “paid in” because there can be a huge difference. Social Security works like an insurance policy. As an example you paid in $500K but die in the first year. You don’t get back all the $500K that you paid in. But if you live for 30 years and draw $800K well you didn’t “pay in” that extra $300K either. That extra $300K comes from the rest of us. You freaking socialist! We should just cut you off at $500K and let you starve. That’s all you “worked for”. Think about it.....and Last but not least : 3. “Why are we cutting benefits for our veterans, no pay raises for our military, and cutting our army to a level lower than before WWII,” – Your source? We are not cutting benefits or pay raises for or veterans. The uproar would be deafening. We are not at war so it makes economic sense to draw down to levels before WWII. “but we are not stopping the payments or benefits to illegal aliens?” – Your source? There is no such thing as “payments” to illegal aliens. The only “benefits” they receive is when they go to a hospital. The hospital is required to provide care and we all pick up that bill. Are you suggesting we let them die on the street? "If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." –Plato “God Bless America! If you want to respond please have some sort of intelligence. Prove me wrong!” – Prove you wrong? You haven’t provided any proof you are correct! Most of what you have said above is obviously incorrect and made up.
