Special Rooster Looking for a Pet Home

Description

One very special Croad Langshan rooster is looking for a pet home. This boy’s name is Big Saturday (Or, as we call him, Sabado Gigante), and he’s been my favorite rooster since we hatched him out last spring, but he has been struggling with a chronic case of wry neck since January. He’s the only bird in our flock of 30+ that’s experiencing it, and we’ve done all the things to try and correct it—vitamin E, Poultry Cell, egg yolks, liver, Selenium, Vitamin D, a neck brace, isolation, hand feedings, lots of herbal support—but we just can’t seem to get him 100% better. We took him to the avian vet in south Burlington and they agreed that sometimes these conditions are chronic despite supportive care. That said, he is doing significantly better than he was back in January. Most days he seems 90% fine. Other days he’s just a little “off”. But sometimes he does need help out of the coop and is in full blown star gazing mode. When that happens, it's typically in the morning and he gets better throughout the day. He’s foraging, eating and drinking on his own, and even successfully mounting his girls. As a precaution we won’t hatch these eggs out (and would discourage you from hatching them, too), but he would make a wonderful special needs pet rooster for someone with a small flock looking to dote on a handsome, sweet, gentle bird. He has more good days than bad, and until that changes we don’t feel that culling is necessary so long as his needs can be reasonably met. He is attached to a very sweet one-year-old olive egger who lays a beautiful mossy egg, and we would like them to stay together if possible. They both hatched last April and are from different blood lines. If you have experience treating chronic wry neck, all the better. We’re in no rush to see him go and want to make sure we find a place that will be a good fit. If he sounds like a bird you’d like to take in, please message me.
