A Brooklyn man was arrested Sunday after police say he robbed a pharmacy and then crashed the stolen car he was driving while fleeing police. According to police, Arjumand Evans, 18, of Rockaway Park, Brooklyn, entered the Rite Aid at 2260 Jerusalem Ave. in Bellmore at 10:52 a.m. Police say he took items from the shelves and tried to leave without paying. A 28-year-old woman who worked there tried to stop him, and the two struggled, police said. Evans managed to flee and got into a white Volkswagen, which had been reported stolen from Suffolk County on Feb. 15, according to police. Officers responded to the scene and found Evans in the car, police said. He tried to flee, but drove into a building and then fled on foot, according to police. He was arrested after a short foot chase. The building was not damaged. The Rite Aid employee suffered a cut to her face and was treated at the scene. Evans is charged with second- and third-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree fleeing a police officer, two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, false impersonation, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
