BELLMORE, NY — Nassau County police arrested a Hicksville woman who they say broke into an apartment in Bellmore last year and stole a man's ashes. According to police, an 82-year-old woman returned to her apartment on Pea Pond Road at 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2019 and found it had been ransacked. Police say that her wallet and a gold-colored box containing her late husband's ashes were stolen. Yesterday, police arrested Mary Arrieta, 54, of Elm Street, Hicksville, in connection with the crime. Arrieta is charged with second- and third-degree burglary. She is scheduled to be arraigned on June 19.
