Description

Join me for a night of music in the beautiful Imogene Theatre with Scott Slay and the Rail! With a not-too-Southern voice, original songs and fresh takes on traditional arrangements, Colorado singer-songwriter Scott Slay pushes the envelope to create some of the most forward-thinking bluegrass music on the scene. With easy-going instrumental riffs, rootsy vocal collaborations, and striking improvisation, Slay draws onlookers in, slowly and with complete control. With a nod to progressive influences of the present, Sam Bush Band, Punch Brothers and others, he finds a catchy, swelling sound completely his own; a rare find in a sea of bluegrass traditional tunes. Slay’s latest work, “The Rail” is set to be released in Spring 2019 after grabbing the attention of Pinecastle’s mid-size label, Bonfire Records. This thirteen-track album includes a variety of some traditional and more progressive Bluegrass tunes coming at you in all different directions, each song different from the next—delivering brightly colored, eclectic and varied sounds and influences from the Folk and Bluegrass genres. Growing up in a musical family on Florida’s gulf coast, Scott became obsessed with Bluegrass music at age 5 after seeing Sam Bush take the stage with his mandolin. After touring the country as part of his father’s Bluegrass band Hwy 99 as well as Mobile AL’s Dog River Boys, Slay began writing songs on guitar and mandolin in bands and other ensembles. He decided at sixteen he wanted to form his own group, trading his mandolin for the guitar. Slay saw success by collaborating with Sammy Shelor in Big Virginia Sky, participating in multiple east coast tours and a featured spot at the 2015 IBMA conference as a showcase artist. The group released a self-titled album in 2015 and later moved on to other projects. With now over 25 years of performance experience, Scott has performed extensively throughout the United States and has had the privilege of collaborating and performing with other artists such as: Sammy Shelor, Scott Vestal, Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz, Josh Shilling, Jim Vancleve, Mike Munford and more.
