The friends and family of a North Bellmore woman who was murdered by her husband have started a petition to keep behind bars. In 1995, Elizabeth Gangi was beaten and strangled to death by her husband, John Jackson, inside their North Bellmore home. Jackson was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years to life, which he is currently serving in Bare Hill Correctional Facility in upstate New York. However, this year he is up for parole. Prison records show that the has a parole hearing scheduled for April. But the friends and family of Elizabeth, as well as thousands of others, have started a petition requesting he be kept behind bars. "Jackson has served the minimum of his sentence and even the judge believed he deserved more than that," the petition reads. "Please help to keep Elizabeth's killer where he belongs – behind bars!" Elizabeth's murder and Jackson's incarceration orphaned their son, Nicholas, who was two years old at the time of his mother's murder. He was adopted by Elizabeth's parents, Gloria and Peter Gangi, who raised him as their own son. They both died earlier this month, just weeks apart. The petition is seeking 15,000 signatures to try to convince the state Division of Parole to keep Jackson incarcerated.
