This is a workshop for Social Club Members. We will learn the art and purpose of wine blending, and have the chance to try it out for real.
What is wine blending all about?
Some folks say they "never drink blends." Truth be told, all bottled wine is a blend. Choices are made to include or exclude certain wine barrels or lots in a final product. Even a single-vineyard bottling.
Blending is the last stroke of artistic influence the winemaker has on the wine. Considerations of balance, tension, house style--and perceived value--all must be considered. It's a fun but also stressful endeavor.
This workshop will emulate a class Winemaker Erich Berg taught at Linfield University. We will first learn the basics of blending, looking at data and using our palates and noses to sniff out characteristics of wine. Part II of the workshop will include participants making their own blend. We will build consensus, and the group will help Erich make a decision on a 25-case Club-made Blend, to be bottled in August, and made available for the holidays.
Unfortunately, no 2021 barrel samples can be taken home. However, after "class" we will pop open current releases, which will be available to take home.
Charcuterie will be provided.
$75 per person. Club Members may bring up to 3 friends at the Club Price.
NOTE: This event may open to the public if seating remains, but for a higher ticket price ($100)
