Description

The Community Table: An Evening Against Hunger. Raising funds for important programs working to ensure families essential needs are met. What is The Community Table? Launching in June 2022, The Community Table is the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation’s (GGHF) Social Capital CAB’s signature fundraising event. Guests will dine under the stars in the courtyard at Uptown Gig Harbor for a fresh, locally sourced meal, prepared by Erik Smith, Chef/Owner of The Green.House and his culinary team. Chef Erik will be provided with key ingredients – gleaned from area farms – and transform them into a unique epicurean experience bringing awareness to hunger in our community, the core of the evening’s benefit. It’s all about community at The Community Table! From the food to the libations, and music by Tara Anne Chugh and her trio, to the hand thrown ceramic water tumblers by local potter Jess Almeida – to the organization’s working to meet the nutritional needs of our neighbors in need. Funds raised through The Community Table will support the establishment of an endowed community fund that will provide key financial resources and build support for programs that improve, promote and maximize opportunity for special populations and healthy communities. Funds will be distributed to area agencies working to address food insufficiency through a granting process. The Cause. The Beneficiaries. Join in a momentous evening as the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation (GGHF) and Uptown Gig Harbor host a locally sourced, gourmet dinner, raising funds for local agencies working to address food insecurities within the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula community. Hunger is a significant issue in our community. An average of 30% of youth enrolled in our Peninsula schools come from families who meet federal criteria for free or reduced lunch programs. For many, these are the only meals they receive with any regularity. The translation? About 2,300 children (1 in 4) and 1 in 7 adults, primarily seniors, across our community struggle with hunger. Since 2012, the Foundation’s Social Capital CAB has actively worked through Make A Difference Day, #Community Harvest, Gig Harbor Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, and the annual District-wide School Spring food drive, to help address hunger in our community. Over this time, and through these efforts, GGHF has provided more than 117 tons of food and funding, totaling over $1 million in support, to area organizations working to eliminate food insecurity. Help us continue this impact! Every dollar raised through The Community Table dinner equals about 5 pounds of food. Our goal is to raise enough funding to help stock the shelves of our local food banks for nearly 6 months – especially those months when need is at its greatest (Late-Spring through Fall). The Goal. To raise $25,000 annually to provide essential resources to help address food insecurity across the greater Gig Harbor and Key Peninsula community. Funds raised will support important programs and help ensure families in need receive essential nutrition and basic items to sustain them.
