Description

Give Voice to your service experiences through this immersive writing workshop. If you’re a Veteran, First Responder, or adult immediate family member, join Health4Heroes for a relaxed opportunity to give voice to your service experiences through writing instruction and practice–putting down the good, the bad, and maybe even the ugly. Facilitated by Guest Host Ross Atkinson, PhD Candidate, US Army Veteran OEF 10-11, and Founder of CSU's Veterans Writing Workshop, with assistance from Mary Scott, MSW, Health4Heroes Education Program Director, this special evening will allow participants to honor their service, free-up any thoughts, share what’s on their heart, and tend their soul. We’ll begin by sharing some appetizers, and lay out the common attributes, benefits and challenges of serving in high-risk operating environments. Next we’ll warm-up with a few writing prompts, enjoy some quiet writing and editing time, then enjoy a social break and dinner (New Belgium food for purchase). After we return to our private room, we’ll wrap-up with readings from all who choose to share their work–always a meaningful experience for all! Note: On May 18, 5-730pm (prior to Health4Heroes’ May 26 Writing Workshop), Atkinson will hold a public reading from CSU’s Veterans Writing Workshop journal, Charlie Mike, to take place at Gray’s Peak Auditorium on FRCC’s campus. Highly recommended!
