NEWTOWN, CT — A Newtown man violated a protective order after he was found in possession of a firearm, according to police. Paul Carpenter, 57, turned himself in to police Dec. 10 on an active arrest warrant. He was found to be in possession of the firearm on Oct. 20, police said. The protective order stated he was supposed to surrender or transfer all firearms and ammunition. Carpenter was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and violation of a protective order. He was released on a promise to appear and was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
