Overview"The pill" is celebrating its 62nd anniversary of FDA approval on May 9th, 2022! The options for effective reversible contraception have multiplied over the intervening decades while both the benefits, including non-contraceptive benefits, as well as risks continue to be better understood. This educational activity will provide the participant with the knowledge and tools to effectively counsel patients about contraceptive options and to safely prescribe contraception 'beyond the pill." Target AudienceRegistered Nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals. ObjectivesAt the conclusion of the educational activity, participants will: Know the currently available methods of reversible contraception in the US.Gain confidence and skills in counseling patients on short acting reversible contraceptives, long acting reversible contraceptives, and emergency contraceptives.Utilize the US Medical Eligibility Criteria and the US Special Practice Recommendations to safely and effectively prescribe short and long acting contraceptives. Identify potential non-contraceptive benefits of selected reversible contraceptive methods. Participants can ear up to 2.0 contact hours of nursing continuing professional development credit based on attendance. Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are also eligible to receive 1.0 hour of pharmacology credit. PresenterC.
