HINGHAM, MA — The Hingham Health Department has confirmed the second lab positive test for coronavirus in town. Hingham officials said all notification of potentials contacts have been made in accordance with guidelines from the Department of Health. Health officials also that all residents observe the state's stay-at-home directives that went into effect at noon on Tuesday, as well as the preventive measures as outlined by the Center for Disease control involving hygiene, social distancing and staying away from other people while sick. Those who are not feeling well are asked to watch for symptoms such as cough, fever and shortness of breath, and call your doctor if these symptoms develops and persist. The number of deaths caused by the new coronavirus continued to mount as confirmed cases the virus in Massachusetts surpassed 1,000, state health officials said Tuesday. The Department of Public Health in its daily update announced two more deaths related to COVID-19, upping the total to 11. The DPH also revealed 1,159 confirmed cases in an expected, yet still jarring uptick, from 777 Monday. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been increasing dramatically as testing expands and the virus spreads. The number of tests administered is now at 13,749, nearly 5,000 more than Monday. The majority of tests have taken place at hospitals or in private labs, rather than the state lab. Boston announced there are 197 confirmed cases in the city, saying 21 recovered. The hardest-hit age groups in terms of number of cases are 40-49, 50-50 and 30-39, each with more than 200 cases.
