Experienced guitarist needed for a gigging soul, funk and R&B band

Oakland CA

Description

We’ve done 500 shows all over the Bay area over the past 17 years playing groove-oriented music, with excursions into soul, jazzy instrumentals, funk and rock. Our line-up includes kick-ass female vocals, bass, drums and Hammond B3/digital piano. We play regularly at Tupelo, Foley’s, Madrone, Murphy’s Law, Number One Broadway, the Florence, and many other bars/clubs, with the occasional private event, too. If you are the guitarist we are looking for, you've probably already played at some of these places. We have a good-looking website, demos and videos, an email list of ~700 people, and other promo materials. This band is a collaboration where we all have equal voice. We take it seriously but above all we play because we enjoy making music together. Here are some basics in no particular order: - We want someone who can come up-to-speed quickly. We lose our current guitarist soon, and we have over 25 gigs booked over the rest of this year. -We have a current repertoire of some 50 songs, mostly covers (from the 60s to today) with a few originals sprinkled in. Many you’ll know. It will be great if you want to bring some, too. - We do this for fun but like to get paid for what we do. We are not looking to make our livings from playing, 'make it' in the music biz., or travel more than about 50 miles from SF. - We gig a few times a month (historically 3-4) and book many months ahead. - We practice in north Oakland, usually at the weekend. We have a free practice space and gear. - You’ll need your own transportation, gear etc. - We divide the pay equally among all band members, with a little off the top for expenses (e.g. web site hosting). Our take per person averages about $100 per gig. - We might have a beer or two, but we aim to act like pros with quick transitions between songs, being on time, etc. - If you can sing backup we’d be so happy - but not required. Drop me a line if you're interested, and tell me a bit about your experience, and what you are interested in doing. Links welcome.
