HINGHAM, MA —Hingham police said a woman who accused officers of harassing her because she is Black was charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest on Monday after police said she kicked an officer in the groin at the Hingham Yacht Club. Police said they were called to the Hingham Yacht Club Monday night to check on a woman they were told may be intoxicated — police later determined she was not intoxicated. The caller said the 28-year-old Dorchester resident was honking her horn and playing loud music. Police said when they attempted to speak with the woman, she closed her window, began screaming and drove away. When the officer approached the car again on foot, the woman called the officer "racist" and said she was being harassed because she was Black. Officers called in a supervisor to help deescalate the situation and the responding sergeant said he tried to explain to the woman that they were called because someone believed she might be intoxicated. Police said the woman continued to protest that she was being harassed because of her skin color, and called the officer racial slurs. Police said the driver said she was recording the exchange, and that if she were drinking she was parked and not driving, although the car was running. After several minutes, police said the woman lowered the window, grabbed the sergeant and pulled him toward her while screaming. Police said the sergeant broke free and informed the woman she now going to be charged with assaulting an officer. As police tried to physically remove her from the car, and she resisted, police said she kicked the sergeant in the groin. Police said she continued to resist until removed from the car and handcuffed. Upon booking at the Hingham Police Station, police said she attempted to hit the booking lieutenant. No alcohol was in the car upon inspection. The woman was charged with two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. She is scheduled to be arraigned at Hingham District Court on July 24.
