ICD Annual Law-Enforcement Special Iftar (Dinner – breaking the fast) with our Muslim Community
As the holy month of Ramadan is taking place, Muslims all over the world use this month to
focus on their spirituality. We find many ways to increase our service to God. One of the most
satisfying and rewarding of those is by volunteering our time in serving/feeding the less fortunate
in our community. Traditionally, the daily fast is broken with “Iftar” meal shared with family
and others in the community. Muslim appreciation for law enforcement goes deep into Islamic tradition. Historically, law
enforcement is viewed as a necessary function in society to prevent corruption while promoting
peace, justice and the common good, all of which are primary Muslim values.
Fostering dialogue between law enforcement agencies and communities builds mutual trust and
understanding — two critical components in creating an atmosphere that addresses differences.
Law enforcement and community members must develop positive working relationships in order
to build enduring solutions and increase trust between the authorities and the public.
