Description
Position: Parish Administrator (part-time) Parish of St. Paul Episcopal Church Newton Highlands MA The Parish of St. Paul (POSP) is a small, friendly Episcopal parish located in the village of Newton Highlands. We are located about a 5 minutes’ walk from the Newton Highlands stop on the MBTA Green Line and our church building is handicapped-accessible. Our worship style is hybrid, meaning that we hold physical services in the church while also offering online two-way access and participation for remote worshippers. We are a parish who believes strongly in acting out our faith in the world. Over recent years, we have consciously changed our language of worship and song from predominantly masculine to more gender inclusive. We also hosted a family in sanctuary in our undercroft for a year and a half, working closely with other congregations of differing faiths as well as secular groups. Our parish is strongly affirming and supportive of LGBTQIA+ people, who are well represented among our members and leadership. Our administrator is the organizing heart of our daily church activities. As a small church, we have three paid employees: the Priest-in-Charge (PIC), the Administrator and the groundskeeper/handyman. All are part-time positions, reporting to the PIC. The PIC may choose to work remotely or at the church, and may be called out on pastoral issues, so it is crucial that the administrator be available to work in the church office on regular hours (although we will try to be flexible as needed to accommodate personal situations that arise). Our current administrator typically works 12-16 hours per week, including Tues-Wed-Thurs from 9am to 1pm in the office. The position is paid on an hourly basis, and includes an annual bonus. And finally: You don’t have to be an Episcopalian (or even a Christian) to do this job! The administrator has regular weekly duties that continue throughout the year. These include: Preparing our weekly service bulletinPreparing and sending out our quarterly rota spreadsheet for lay participationConfirming (by email) key lay roles in the service each weekOrdering flowers for the serviceEntering pledge payments and other expenses in QuickbooksPreparing checks to be signedCoordinating payroll with our payroll providerSimple updating of information on our parish websiteRecord keeping and other data entry tasks, andOther similar tasks. Occasional tasks which fall under the administrator’s purview include: Handing out food cards as needed to visitorsMeeting parishioners who stop by the office to pick up or drop off thingsMeeting vendors for services needed in the church building (for example: fire alarm service or piano tuner)Coordinating with the parish groundskeeper & handyman to be sure property tasks are completedMaking phone calls as requested by the PICFiling reports with the DiocesePreparing and mailing annual stewardship materials to the congregation, andPreparing the annual report to the parish Skills and prerequisites for the role: Since the administrator will be working independently much of the time (under the PIC’s supervision), the successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable working primarily on their ownMost of the work, including bookkeeping, is done on a computer, so the successful candidate should be comfortable operating in a digital environmentAttention to detail and deadlines is criticalAccess to a car would be a plus, in order to do nearby errands if asked To apply, please email our co-wardens: Bernice Cramer [email protected] Kim Koger [email protected]
