TOMS RIVER, NJ — The FBI is conducting a criminal investigation into Ocean County's hiring practices, according to a report.
Federal officials have subpoenaed Ocean County employment applications and personnel resolutions for the past five years, according to the Asbury Park Press. These documents would include records of any raises, hiring decisions, and approved leaves of absences, the report said.
The FBI ordered the Ocean County Board of Commissioners clerk to turn over related documents to a federal grand jury by May 5, the report said.
County sources told the APP they believe the FBI is investigating allegation of a kickback scheme, according to the report.
