The Young Marines named Trey R. Capers, 31, as the Adult Volunteer of the Year for Division 4. He is a volunteer with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines from Harvey, Louisiana. Capers is the Division 4 Training Officer, Division 4 Activity Officer, and a Leadership School director. He is a resident of Kenner, Louisiana. The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, age 8 through high school graduation. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and it promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Division 4 includes nine states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Young Marines unit has 64 youth members and 12 Adult Volunteers. Community service events that the Young Marines take part in include feeding families who are in need, marching in parades, and Drug Demand Reduction efforts. At age 11, Capers joined the Young Marines in 2002 and was active until 2009. He was named Division Young Marine of the Year in 2008. "Trey's passion and determination really stand out in all he has done for his unit as well as for the organization," said Col William P. Davis USMC (Ret), national executive director and CEO of the Young Marines. "He is a dedicated mentor and teacher, reflecting all the best traits of our volunteers." Capers says one of the best parts as an adult volunteer is witnessing the growth and progression of the youth members who join at a young age. In addition, he enjoys working with a great leadership team and unit staff. "The commitment the adult volunteers put forth is nothing short of amazing," Trey said. "I love this program so much, and it is so rewarding to work with other like-minded individuals. I want today's youth to know that I'm here to mentor, support, and help navigate their life goals and accomplishments."
