RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Inland Empire commuters who carpool, vanpool, use public transit, or active forms of transportation like biking or walking to work can earn $5 per day in gift cards starting Monday, the Riverside County Transportation Commission announced. Offered through the Riverside County Transportation Commission's IE Commuter program, the incentive is designed to reduce traffic congestion, help the environment, and help employees to cut their commuting costs, according to the agency. To be eligible, commuters must live in Riverside or San Bernardino counties. Both the employer and the employee must register at iecommuter.org. Employees then log their ridesharing trips through the website. Those who rideshare or use active transportation at least five workdays per month may earn $5 in gift cards for each day they use the alternative transport in a 90-day period— up to $125. Gift card options include Amazon, Stater Bros., Target or Walmart and are selected by the employer, according to the RCTC. Full-time teleworkers are not eligible; other exclusions may apply. "By carpooling, riding transit, vanpooling, and using other transportation methods, our Riverside County residents can help improve traffic flow, clean up the air, and put money back in their pockets," said Riverside County Transportation Commission Chair and Riverside County 4th District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. For more information, visit IECommuter.org to reach an IE Commuter representative on LiveChat or call 1-866-RIDESHARE (866-743-3742). IE Commuter is offered in partnership by the Riverside County Transportation Commission and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.
