Lawrence Township Gets $32,890 In State Funds For Road Safety

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The township was recently awarded $32,890 under the Highway Safety Fund Program, the Murphy Administration said. The funds will go towards keeping roads safe. "The Highway Safety Fund provides grants to local law enforcement, helping ensure they have the tools they need to keep our roads safe," NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said in a statement. "The funding provides resources necessary for local governments to achieve their safety objectives without burdening local property taxpayers." Three Mercer County towns received funds under the program. They are: Lawrence Township: $32,890Trenton: $15,703West Windsor: $24,291 The program is funded through fines, which are doubled in designated Safe Corridors for a variety of violations, including speeding. The designated spots on the state highways were selected based on crash data, traffic volume, and other highway traffic safety criteria, state officials said. The current safe corridors include Route 1 between Trenton and South Brunswick (milepost 0.6 to 10), and between South Brunswick and Edison (milepost 20 to 30).
