Marin Readies For More 'Abnormal' April Storms

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Another series of improbable late-April storms is headed to the Bay Area is expected to drop measurable rainfall totals in Marin, the National Weather Service said. The first of two storms — forecast to arrive in Marin Monday night and last through Tuesday morning — isn't expected to bring much more than a tenth of an inch to most of the Bay Area but Mt. Tamalpais could see up to three quarters of an inch of rain, NWS Meteorologist Sarah McCorkle said. A more powerful second storm likely to arrive Wednesday night is expected to bring between a quarter to a half inch of rain to most of the Bay Area and up to an inch in Mt. Tamalpais, McCorkle said. The second storm is expected to last into Friday. "The second system definitely has stronger dynamics associated with it," McCorkle said. The Bay Area is seeing heavy rain totals after seeing virtually none the first three months of this year. Storms last week unloaded more than an inch of rain throughout most of the Bay Area and upwards of two inches at higher elevations including the North Bay hills, according to the NWS. "It's pretty abnormal from a meteorological standpoint to see heavy rain totals this time of year considering we've had so little rain this year, but we're happy about it," McCorkle said.
