NORRISTOWN — The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation designated Norristown Area School District as one of the best communities nationwide for its outstanding commitment to music education. The designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the award, the district answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas. The foundation is headquartered in Carlsbad, Calif. "From our first ever Elementary Winter Sing-along, to over 15k in DonorsChoose grants this year, to beautiful global opportunities through music, and of course our community partnerships, take a moment and smile," said Dr. Barbara Weikert, music and choral director at Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy "Our journey together has a long way to go, but together we will ensure that our students and community shine through music."
