JOLIET, IL — A 34-year-old Joliet man punched a woman in the face several times early Sunday morning and when Joliet police arrived on the scene, Jose Guzman Jr. ordered his dog to attack the officers, police spokesman Dwayne English said. Guzman is now in the Will County Jail facing charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault and obstructing a peace officer. The domestic disturbance happened at 1 a.m., according to police. During an argument, police said Guzman slapped the victim and punched her in the face multiple times. When Joliet police tried to arrest Guzman, he tensed up his body and pulled away, police said. "During this time, Guzman repeatedly commanded his large dog to attack officers," English stated. "The dog began to growl and bark at officers, but did not attack." Guzman was booked into the Will County Jail by 3 a.m. Sunday. He was released at 3:55 p.m. after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail, jail logs show.
