Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: April 14, 2022 A woman is under arrest on child kidnapping charges. Wendy Gutierrez (DOB 09/14/1976) does not have legal custody of six-year-old Jolyn Gutierrez. On February 22, Gutierrez took her daughter from Kempton Elementary School in Spring Valley without permission then went to Mexico. The United States Marshals Service in collaboration with Mexican authorities located Gutierrez and her daughter in Mexico on Wednesday, April 13. Jolyn was unharmed. Authorities in Mexico turned over Wendy and Jolyn to the United States Marshals Service at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Wendy is booked at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee on felony charges of kidnapping and abducting a child. San Diego County Sheriff's Homicide Detectives coordinated with County Child Welfare Services and reunited Jolyn with her maternal grandparents. The Sheriff's Homicide Unit investigates missing person cases not resolved after ten days.
