Description

Press release from Portland Fire & Rescue: April 13, 2022 Portland Fire and Rescue crews responded to a house fire at approximately 3:30 this morning in the 4700 block of NE 57th Ave., in the Cully neighborhood, with reports of one occupant still inside. Before firefighters arrived, two individuals on their way to work accessed the home and attempted to rescue residents inside. Fire attack crews faced heavy fire showing from the front door and immediately made an aggressive interior push to locate the other victim and to suppress the fire. Their search was hampered by hoarder-like conditions which also added fuel to the rapidly growing fire. The fire attack crew inside reported failure of an interior wall almost simultaneously as a crew assessing the back of the structure discovered heavy fire from the rear and side of the home. These issues forced firefighters to transition out of the house to attack the fire from the exterior. Please note Multnomah County has a resource list for help to individuals struggling with hoarding: Hoarding Resource List | Multnomah County (multco.us).
