Portland Easter Vandalism: Police Seek People Who Damaged Businesses

PORTLAND, OR —Portland police are looking for information on dozens of people who marched through North Portland on Sunday, setting fires and damaging businesses, officials said. The group gathered in Peninsula Park around 8 p.m. Sunday night and within the hour started to march, according to police. Along the way, they stopped at a coffee shop on the 6000 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, smashing windows and launching what police described as "explosive devices" at the shop. Police said that two banks on the 5700 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard were also damaged, one had windows broken while the other was graffitied. Three bus shelters were also vandalized and numerous street signs were damaged, police said. The people then continued to the police bureau's North Precinct where police said that started a fire in a dumpster. While officers tried to out out the fire, they needed to call Portland Fire & Rescue for assistance, they said.
