Press release from San Diego County Sheriff's Department: April 14, 2022 A man is in custody following a carjacking in Santee. It happened in the 10000 block of Woodside Avenue as an off-duty El Cajon Police Officer was leaving a parking lot just before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13. A man opened the passenger door of the unmarked pickup truck, got into the vehicle and began yelling incoherently at the driver. At some point, both parties got out of the truck and the carjacker was able to get behind the wheel and drive away. Deputies with the Santee Sheriff's Station and El Cajon Police Officers searched the area with Sheriff's ASTREA (helicopter) overhead, but did not find the truck. Just before midnight, the truck was spotted in Lakeside. The driver led deputies and officers on a vehicle pursuit to Chula Vista where the truck crashed into a fire hydrant in the 2000 block of Birch Road. David Alejandro Felix (DOB 03/14/93) suffered minor injuries from the crash and has been booked at San Diego Central Jail on charges of carjacking, assault on a peace officer, car theft, possessing a stolen vehicle and felony evading.
