Description
Press release from the City of Champaign:
Next week, the Champaign City Council will consider approving a new intergovernmental agreement with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign which would increase the number of uniformed police officers serving Champaign's residents. The proposed agreement would add seven new officers at the University of Illinois Police Department (UIPD), update patrol responsibilities in the Campustown area, and allow Champaign Police to respond more quickly to calls for service across the rest of the community. If the City Council approves the agreement during its meeting on April 19, 2022, the new patrol arrangements would be fully implemented by October 1, 2022, and last for two years with an option for a third.
