SHELTER ISLAND, NY — Police responded to a bomb threat at the South Ferry terminal on Shelter Island Sunday night, authorities said. According to Shelter Island Police, officers responded after a call was received at the Southold Town Police dispatch center at 10:39 p.m. Both South Ferry terminals, in North Haven and on Shelter Island, were secured by Southampton Town and Shelter Island Police, respectively, authorities said. A New York State Police K-9 unit was also dispatched to help with the investigation, police said. South Ferry operations were shut down for a brief period of time and were restored after a thorough search of the terminals determined that no explosive device was located or existed, police said. The investigation into the source and identity of the threat remains active, police said.
