NEW LONDON, CT — A New London man has been sentenced to four years in prison on drug dealing charges, according to a statement from federal prosecutors. Juan Hernandez, 37, will also serve three years of supervised release.
The sentencing comes after Hernandez was accused of distributing cocaine and violating the terms of his federal supervised release for a previous conviction in cocaine trafficking.
A law enforcement investigation into drug and gun dealing in Southeastern Connecticut found that Hernandez received cocaine from an identified leader of a drug trafficking organization and distributed the drug to his own customers and other street-level dealers.
Hernandez was arrested following a traffic stop Jan. 17, 2019, during which investigators found him in possession of 100 grams of cocaine, according to prosecutors.
At the time of his arrest, Hernandez was on federal supervised release stemming from a 2016 conviction for dealing cocaine.
Hernandez and 23 other people accused of being part of a drug dealing ring were indicted March 5, 2019. He later pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine.
