I run a small land surveying company out of my house and have an excellent opportunity for the right person. This position will start off at $20.00 per hour as a 1099-nec employee. I need someone to train underneath my party chief. He is looking to get out of the business soon, probably before summer is out, so I need to "fast track" someone into learning to run a survey crew. One running the surveying equipment is mastered (should take less than 6 months); your pay would increase to $25.00 per hour. As soon as you had the ability to run a land survey crew handling simpler assignments; your rate of pay would increase to $30.00 per hour. I feel for the right person, this should be able to be achieved in about a year +/-. The right candidate could advance their rate of pay to $40.00 per hour within a 2 year time frame. That would be about the max amount of pay, although I do throw out "random" bonuses from time to time for a job well done. I have been surveying for 36 years and managed land surveying divisions; so I have a pretty good feel for this. The idea candidate will need to be decent in math. The math is not as intensive as it was in the 90's due to advances in technology; but the ability to add and subtract effortlessly is going to be a requirement. The idea candidate must be physically fit. This is an outdoor position. I do not bid a lot of work in the woods, but being in the woods from time to time, having to swing a machete may be required. For what it is worth, I pay better than anyone in Jax. You can check out the help wanted ad's. Big companies are paying party chiefs with several years of experience a max rate of about $25 +/- per hour. Because it is just me and my one local crew ( I do use a sub contract crew from time to time), it is worth it to me to pay well and not have a revolving door.
