NEW HAVEN, CT — A deal with a new grocer taking over Ferraro's Market is close to being complete, according to The New Haven Independent. The new grocer would keep the "Meat King" intact. The Ferraro family has run a food market in New Haven since 1952 and recently announced plans to move to North Haven at the end of the year. Peter Ferraro told The Independent that he is in the final stages of a deal with a New York business person who plans to rent the building and operate a grocery there along the same lines as the existing store. The family owned and operated market is moving into a 7,000-square-foot space on Universal Drive in North Haven. The supermarket is expected to open some time in January in the former Payless Shoes location next to Target in the North Haven Commons shopping center, according to the New Haven Register.
