MOTHERS MEDICINALS is built around its inspiration, Founder and CEO, Tina Holava-Hughes, an Upstate New York native, born and raised by mixed race parents under poverty conditions in rural Oswego County, who is an accomplished professional, a proud mother and grandmother, an active community volunteer and taxpaying homeowner in the City of Syracuse. She’s also a specialty farmer. Tina, like many of her friends and family living amid the sprawling timberlands of the North Country, took to cultivating, curing and consuming cannabis at a young age. Her own personal journey with the plant, from her self treatment and recreational use to the profound changes she’s been able to make in other people’s lives when they were seeking high quality medicines, yet were prohibited from doing so. In the true spirit of the MRTA legislation, she is taking the bold and intentional strides necessary to apply for the Social Equity Cannabis license certification. The chance is ripe for her and other poor / working class women, minorities and others negatively impacted by the prior illegal status of the safe and healing commodity, to transcend the constraints provided by the past and to move into an honest business trade. After incorporating her business last month, she decided April 20th was a perfect launch. Featuring an evening of fun social activities, professional networking, cannabis industry education, a fine art and crafter’s marketplace, body painting and live music from local favorites Akuma Roots and chart topping national recording artist and global cannabis ambassadors, Soul Rebel Project, of Boston. The vision for MOTHERS is to transform the world through the renewed consumption of cannabis. It believes the best way to do so is to empower all players in the industry to standardize production and realize their goals, giving them a home that has everything they’ll need to bring their dreams to life. In addition to the creative activities and dance club vibe, MOTHERS MEDICINALS, is also hosting a “Women in Weed” Career Fair from 5p-7p, encouraging more women to consider entering into a multi-billion dollar industry where they’ve been grossly underrepresented as labor, investors and executives. The “Green Rush” is a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity, yet only 10% of the CEOs in the US cannabis industry are female. Clearly, they aren’t being financially supported and are often outnumbered at the negotiating table.
