Description
Join us for a long weekend of slowing down and sinking into body, breath, and presence. This mostly silent retreat combines classic Vipasana Insight meditation with the gentle ritual practices of Shabbat. Our time together will include sitting and walking meditation, optional body practices (qi gong and yoga), chanting/song at daily morning Avodat Lev (Service of the Heart) and Friday night services. Those new to meditation as well as experienced meditators are welcome. Basic meditation instruction will be provided, with daily time for teachings and Q&A. Accommodations will be provided in our new retreat lodge and community residence. All meals (vegetarian) will be provided. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required to participate in this retreat, and due to COVID there will be no commuter option. Additionally, any participant who received their vaccination 6 months or more ago are required to submit proof of booster. All participants must also take a PCR COVID test and have a negative result within 3 days prior to the retreat. This retreat will be limited to 35 participants. Draft Schedule A Note on Trauma & Other Challenges: Intensive silent meditation retreats, while often beautiful experiences, can also surface challenging emotional states, and might not be the right fit for people who would need individual or professional psychiatric care in the retreat container. If you have experienced trauma or are dealing with other mental health challenges, and it would be difficult for you to be alone in silence right now, retreat may not be the right practice at the moment. Retreat teachers are unable to offer the kind of individual psychological care necessary for acute trauma symptoms. If you are currently under the care of a psychiatric professional, please discuss your attendance with them. Practitioners should be in a stable period of mental well-being and have adequate self-regulatory resources to attend an intensive silent retreat. Registration fee covers room and board. Teachers will be paid by donation (dana). Retreat registration does not include Dana, a donation made to compensate the retreat/meditation leaders. Participants will be asked to give Dana, at an amount of their choosing, at the end of the retreat.
